First Day of School
(Wendy Silva)
I wonder what you’re doing right now,
And if everyone is treating you kind.
I hope there is a special person,
A nice friend that you can find.
I wonder if the teacher knows
Just
how special you are to me.
And if the brightness of your heart,
Is something she can see.
I wonder if you are thinking about
me,
And if you need a hug.
I already miss the sound of your voice,
And how you give my leg a tug.
I wonder if you could possibly understand,
How hard it is for me to let you grow.
On this day know that my heart breaks,
For this is the first step in letting my baby go.
The day I knew would come but somehow never prepared myself for what would happen this week. My precious only child stepped into the big leagues and became a Sendera Ranch Longhorn. He loves his teacher, his class of 24 Kinder Kids (God Bless his teacher!), and loves all the new found independence. He wakes up at the crack of dawn and scarcely eats breakfast so we can hurry to get to school. His favorite class is PE, because they do a lot of dancing to Just Dance songs and thinks the Music teacher is divine! He is looking forward to buying a lunch or two in the cafeteria and walks in the hallway with a proud bubble. He has written several stories, one of which includes a naked picture of the boy in the book, NO DAVID! He is welcoming his first germy cold of the year, ick, and selling his heart out to win a trip to the game truck for the school fundraiser. He is struggling with the fact that you have to wear shoes ALL DAY LONG and wearing just your 'roos is not socially accepted! His curiosity about learning is through the roof and is looking forward to Kinder homework!
On the other hand, this Kinder boys Mom is struggling with the fact that he is independent and not under her wing. She seems to tear up at the thought of him growing all the time. She still walks him to class and kisses him when she sees him in the hall. She beams with pride when she sees that bubble in his mouth or when she peeks in the window of his room to see him reading at his desk. Her heart breaks to see the bruises all over his shoulder, arm, and knee where the curious boy tested the 2 legs of his chair and the chair won. She delights in the fact that the teacher kissed away his hurt! She is overjoyed at the fact that for the first time ever the Kinder boy seems to appreciate his mom more than ever! This Kinder boys Mom is so grateful to have the opportunity to share in his first learning experience!

Aww such a sweet post! Love that kid!
ReplyDeleteOK - that poem totally made me cry. Thanks a lot! ;) AJ was quite sad that she couldn't stop in and see you on the first day. She has Mrs. Parker and really likes her, although her first year without Cayden is proving a little tough. Hope everything's going well at your new school!
